If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by to say hello or lend a hand. Join us for a meeting, an event or a work day.

Propose your project for the garden or help us make one of our dreams come true. We want:

  • Work gloves for every gardener – a must.
  • Street tree guards for our three cherry blossoms.
  • Design and materials for an accessible pathway entrance – open our garden to more neighbors.
  • Outdoor display or lamination machine so we can share news on the street.
  • Improved gazebo – protect the gardeners from the elements too.
  • Greenhouse so we can keep things exciting for a much longer season.
  • Imagine a new fence – chain link is practical but not as lovely as the flowers.
  • Electrical connection – for sharing videos and pictures at our events.

Achieved goals

  • Rainwater collection barrel – our plants are thirsty.
  • Hose reel or holder – the hose is heavy and must travel far. Our 2010 Membership funds will bring us this.
  • Tarp and ties for our gazebo structure – thanks to Jennifer
  • Planters, thanks to the Rosa Parks building during their roof renovations
  • Street trees in front of the garden – thanks to Nobu, Michelle and Geddes
  • Water containers / planters – thanks to Steve
  • Productive perennials: fruit trees, hazelnuts and berry bushes – thanks to Matt
  • Tool shed – Green Thumb gave us essential gardening tools, now we need to save them from the elements (we got this in 2010 thanks to Steve!)
  • Lumber and hardware to build a compost bin – 3′ x 3′ x 9′ – so we can feed our city soil. WE GOT THIS IN JULY 2009 THANKS TO IAN!

Thank you to our many volunteers and friends! We did it and will do more!

  1. Wish List Update

    I’ve begun acquiring seeds,germination
trays, and planting mixtures. There are
bulbed tulips available for planting now.
Marta reported that she has a donor for
seeds to try for a Three Sister’s Garden
    this year. And Ivy has agreed to, again;
    supply corn starts.

I have begun laying out the circular box
    arrangement.

I will soon be going to Home Depot to cost
out proper fencing of the Cat Reserve area.
I do have a 8×8 kennel that can serve to fence
    off one large box.

    I’ve added Hoses and sprinkers;
    enough for total garden coverage.

Pee Wee has salvaged additional tables.

I acquired 10 more benches; which TRUCE
members have been assembling; as time permits.Seven (7) are completed.

I received delivery Thursday of an 3’x8′ Storage
Shed; which can be assembled on the platform.
This will leave an 8×8 area for an observation deck.
For safety a railing will need to be added. Materials
for steps were already on hand.

I am researching both greenhouses and high tunnels.
And I’ve forwarded some plans to Ian and asked him
to evaluate the feasibility of members building them.

Marilyn is putting finishing touches on a Winter newsletter issue: that should be available next week.

  2. Materials for a 16×14 Hoop style greenhouse are on order from the Home Depot. Additional clear plastic can be ordered to recover the gazebo.

so my current wish is for volunteers to put together
the amenities that we now have on hand. and to look
at building some we still need e.g. ADA accessible
planting boxes; for which I also have the plans. If we
build it they will come: after the cats leave!!!

  3. Director. Orundun Johnson of the Central Harlem
Montessori school has committed her students to
participate in a planting for the Pablo Memorial. she
will forward a date. She brought some of her class
to the garden gate for a quick introduction, and look
at the types of containers that could be used. I thanked
her and the class for helping to extend our gardening
    into the community.

  4. I am interested in speaking with someone about helping in the garden. Please contact me; I cannot find contact info anywhere on the website!

    Thank you,

    Alex
