Plant seeds, take home a seedling, food, music, arts & crafts

In celebration of the spirit of Pablo David, an award-winning video artist who was a mentor to many young people in the Harlem community and beyond. Pablo had great pride in his Honduran Garifuna culture and also had a great respect for learning about other people’s traditions and issues of social justice. Pablo struggled in school but had finally started college when he was tragically killed in a car accident in 2004. Since then, TRUCE and the HCZ community has celebrated his life each year.

This garden event is a Harlem-wide invitation for individuals, families and community organizations to join in celebration of the peace and community Pablo David dedicated his life to.

Plant sunflowers and watch them bloom in Harlem symbolizing and honoring:

Three new cherry blossoms on Saint Nicholas Ave

We are so proud of our three new street trees! These double-bloomed pink Kwanzan cherry blossoms are spectacular. Congratulations to Michelle who led the project. Special thanks to Geddes for getting them in the ground. We thank Nobu for donating the beautiful trees. Thanks to Ian for coordinating with Parks and Manhattan Forester Frick for his support.

Help us take care of them! They love water and we want them litter-free. Remember – your dogs can burn them, so this is not their turf – lead them to the curb. With everone’s help, we can make them the whole neighborhood’s to enjoy for many years to come.

Students of Urban Sustainability to Visit Garden

On April 25th, from 11-2 we welcome M. Checker, professor of Urban Studies at Queens College (CUNY) and students to the garden as part of their studies on Harlem and urban sustainability.

Garden Mosaics Trainees to Visit Garden

Help us welcome a group of  20 volunteers from Central Park, studying the city’s green resources using Garden Mosaics program materials. Organized by Urban Environment, Cornell University Cooperative Extension – New York City.

They’ll stop by Monday, April 19th at 11:30a.m. and want to hear what the garden means to all of us.

(In 2003, Ray Figueroa led a project with the Garden Mosaics program for TRUCE in this garden.)
